Magasin 4
Founded in 1994 as an alternative concert venue, Magasin 4 is about to move into its new building on the corner of Avenue du Port and Rue de l'Entrepôt. The project is part of the drive to regenerate the strategic canal zone, as part of the "Citroën-Vergote" Urban Renewal Contract.
This new temple of music boasts a strong architectural identity, in keeping with its industrial setting. The concert hall, which can accommodate up to 500 people, is flanked by two vertical structures, one dedicated to the artists, the other to the audience. Its roof is home to a terrace, and forms a potential basis for a future extension. The project is designed with an anticipatory approach in mind: the building is designed to evolve, and can accommodate additional functions as and when required. The perennial concrete structure accommodates flexible, reversible layouts, aiming for a circular strategy enhanced by the use of recycled materials such as raw earth masonry and steel panels.
The guided tours will be led by Valentin Piret and Radim Louda, architects and co-founders of CENTRAL.
