Taking the Country's Side at the Halles Saint-Géry
By measuring the environmental impasse with which our world is confronted, this exhibition intends to provoke a reflection - both retrospective and prospective - on the close link between these two twin disciplines, agriculture and architecture, and on their growing divorce since the industrial revolution. It aims to learn from agronomists, activists and planners who have been thinking about the hypothesis of an energetic degrowth as well as about the recomposition and perpetuation of living territories.
Composed of a historiographic set of 42 maps, a reflexive compass, a large timeline and a series of videos, the exhibition Agriculture and Architecture: Taking the Country's Side, produced as part of the 2019 Lisbon Architecture Triennial, curated by the Architecture & Experience master's degree of École d’architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est , was presented in the Garagem Sul of the Centro Cultural de Belem from October 2019 to February 2020. Insofar as its content is largely derived from two courses given at ENAC in recent years, its translation to EPFL, in a concentrated, and slightly amended form, is a kind of homecoming.
