Magasin 4

Architects: Central OFAAU
Client: City of Brussels

The project for the new Magasin 4, an alternative concert hall founded in 1994, implements a evolutive approach. It is situated on an unused plot along the canal, within the Citroën-Vergote urban renewal contract area. This new building addresses current urban challenges by linking productive city functions to urban life, while preserving its role in the alternative music scene. Magasin 4 occupies an area of 900 m² and is based on an evolving structure designed to accommodate complementary functions as needs change.

The project considers the future developments of the site and adopts a two-sided approach regarding the fate of its construction materials. The overall structure, made of concrete, is intended to be permanent. It supports interior arrangements, cladding, and equipment that can evolve over time. The demountability of these elements makes the layouts flexible and reversible. Recycled or reuse materials, such as rammed earth masonry and steel panels, are used whenever possible.

The building is structured into two volumes: one dedicated to the logistical activities of musicians and the team, and the other for the public. The concert hall, located between these two blocks, covers an area of 382 m² and is acoustically isolated. It can accommodate up to 500 people and includes a rooftop terrace.

This visit is an outdoor site visit.

Project financed under the Urban Renewal Contract 1 (URC 1 Citroën Vergote ).
