La Serre – visit-exchanges with the participants

Communa

La Serre is one of the temporary occupations initiated by Communa, a group facilitating housing and social and cultural initiatives in vacant buildings throughout Brussels, allowing communities to actively participate in the construction of the city. In La Serre, programmes are mixed and tested. Both inhabitants and other users experiment with new and sustainable forms of living together, while questioning and reimagining cycles of production, consumption and distribution. There are a myriad of initiatives. The former car park is used for communal housing. Non-profit organisations who fight for the right to housing share the space with a museum on capitalism, an organisation on ecological transition, and a group producing mobile and sustainable sound systems to facilitate the dissemination of music in the city. This project is an example of how architecture could function differently.

During this visit, participants will be invited to react and exchange with the guide and other participants on the question of new and sustainable forms of living together.
