Karper House

Architects: Hé! Architectuur
Implementation: 2020

For this project, which involves renovating and converting an industrial building into a home with a roof extension, the architects focused on densification, the circular economy and cohousing. In this project, they show that building with basic materials such as straw, earth and wood has a place not only in the countryside but also in an urban setting.

By using bio-based materials as much as possible, instead of conventional construction materials, the building has a very low ecological impact and provides a healthy and pleasant living environment. Natural materials such as straw bales are used for insulation, and clay plaster and rammed earth for finishing. Second-hand recycled products add character and prevent additional emissions from new materials.
