ALTSTADT + Dérive + Panta + Elseline Bazin + ...
Since 2022, several offices share a typical office plateau, located at Madou square and overlooking the Brussels ring road from an elevated position.
ALTSTADT is an architectural studio based in Brussels, led by Jan de Moffarts and Steven Bosmans. ALTSTADT combines its specific know-how in the restoration, reconversion and re-activation of historical buildings, with a search for methodical and conceptually precise design. Heritage, as a built presence of the collective memory and therefore essentially public space, is a central theme but not a focus. The main ambition is making spatially precise, clear, and sensible projects, independent of the origins and scope of the project, with radicality and subtlety as alternating and mutually reinforcing intentions. Within this framework ALTSTADT is working on projects and studies of all sizes and origins in Brussels and beyond, alternating between the role of designer and advisor.
Dérive operates between architecture, public space and spatial strategies. A collaboration founded by Hedwig van der Linden and Kevin Westerveld with the motivation to provide air within complex transition challenges. Working from Brussels and Rotterdam, Dérive seeks synergy between conceptual thinking and co-creative practice by creating space for dialogue and local coalitions – consciously starting from the qualities and resources of existing habitats.
Panta is a multidisciplinary practice based in Brussels. The practice has a dual focus on architecture as well as furniture and industrial design. Each building or object is based on an open relationship between user and artefact. Within the studio, architecture is sought as an open framework within which life takes place. Projects become specific by their programme, context or character but always allow free use.
Elseline Bazin Architecte is a young architectural office focusing on communal projects at various scales. Projects such as social housing, productive workshops in Anderlecht, playful installations in Wiels and the renewal of a public square in Schaerbeek reflect an attitude that values the existing fabric while bringing new interactions for all generations.
