Visit of focus Réemploi site by Ilaria Calamita
In a resolutely eco-friendly spirit, this inner courtyard has been transformed for the well-being of the 19 students living in the front and rear buildings. With 95% recycled or natural furniture and materials, including lime and pozzolan exterior rendering and native plants, this outdoor space has become an ideal place to relax. Students can now enjoy the sun or the shifting shade under the sails while lounging on pallet benches or studying on Belgian designer Dirk Wynants' second-hand DoNuts. What's more, the courtyard has become a little paradise for insects, which have found refuge there, helping to maintain the city's ecosystem. Gone are the small, dark kitchens, and students can now gather in an entrance hall transformed into a playfully lit, interactive and warmly furnished living room, perfect for long winter afternoons. All of which responds to specific functional needs, offering a convivial and environmentally-friendly space for residents.
