Théâtre Les Tanneurs
Architects: ADN Architectures
Client: Federation Wallonia-Brussels
The theatre "Les Tanneurs" is located in a building with an industrial history. Since its establishment, Théâtre Les Tanneurs has been an open space for artists, whether they are in residence or being hosted. The theatre serves as a meeting place for all segments of society. Therefore, the design of the ground floor and the basements, which are currently partially unused and overlook the street, aligns with the philosophy of the theatre and allows it to open up to the neighbourhood and the street.
The building housing the theatre is an assembly of different structures that have served various functions and have been individually adapted over time. This building, composed of several constructions, has been reorganised in different phases. In the spring of 2020, significant renovation work was carried out in the foyer. This first phase of the work tripled the area of the reception space and opened the foyer to the street. A second phase of work followed in 2022, during which ADN Architectures mainly focused on redesigning the current reception hall at the front of the building and the adjacent 'bistro' space. The design is characterised by a play of existing materials with a limited material palette and the distinctive wooden furniture.
