Pavillon Park Ouest

Architect : skope and collectif dallas
Client : Environnement.brussels/Leefmilieu.brussels

Since 2023, Park Ouest has been providing an evolving oasis in our city, situated between Osseghem and Beekant. This park, managed by Brussels Environment/Leefmilieu in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Toestand while awaiting its final development, is much more than just a green space. Toestand invites Brussels residents to co-produce the future together and to share their ideas and proposals. With the collaboration of local residents, they envision a future park while creating an adventurous and natural play environment for children and young people. It is also a public space for social and cultural encounters, open several times a week, flexible and adaptable. Throughout the project, Toestand organises open hours during the opening periods and assists citizens in turning their ideas for the park and the neighbourhood into reality. We look forward to hearing your suggestions and co-creating this exceptional space with you!

The Pavillon Park Ouest is a collaboration between several architects and engineers, was selected for its circular design and its relationship with the park's public space. It was created in the context of a citizen participation program for the park. Following its construction, it will provide an opportunity for collective reflection on the various uses of the park and a better understanding of the needs of local residents.

This context also made it possible to explore other themes during its development, such as urban planning standards and regulations. The criteria that buildings must follow still need to be harmonized regarding reuse, energy performance, permits, and more. This pavilion was thus brought to life thanks to the creativity and goodwill of public stakeholders.

The pavilion faced other limitations, this time of a technical and logistical nature. The high demands in terms of modularity, spatial flexibility, circular design, and the construction using reclaimed materials elevate it to the status of a small technical achievement. The pavillon’s presence will help activate the new park which is situated on a former railway wasteland.

This pavilion is designed to provide Toestand vzw and park visitors with a spacious, multi-purpose covered area.

The park and the pavilion will help refine the vision for the area in future plans and projects that will take place in this part of the municipality.

Project financed under the Urban Renewal Contract 3 (URC 3 Park Ouest).
