Guided tour / Sustainable Architecture

Marnix

A2M

The MARNIX building in the heart of Brussels was designed in 1964 by the American firm SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill). It was extended in 1989, along the same architectural lines, and has become an iconic building within the Capital of Europe. But the task now facing Brussels-based A2M is far more significant: to bring the listed building into the 21st century while turning it into a flagship sustainable renovation project. To achieve that goal, the architects are focusing on four pillars: transparency, employee welfare, innovation and art. When the work is complete, ING's new headquarters will be carbon neutral and will have Passive House, BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum certification. It will also answer an important question: is it possible for a building not only to have a reduced impact on the environment, but even to help restore that environment?

The entrance to the site is on the rue du Trône.
