La Royale Belge - Souverain 25
DDS+ + Anne-Marie Sauvat + Lionel Jadot + Mix + Urban.brussels (publication) + MA2
The former Royale Belge headquarters has been given a revamp. After an attempt to demolish it to make way for a new US Embassy, the iconic building has recently undergone a restoration, with great respect for its historical and heritage value. Bovenbouw Architectuur and Caruso St John won the competition organised by the Chief Architect of the Brussels-Capital Region (Bouwmeester-Maître Architecte). They were joined subsequently by Brussels architects DDS+ and landscape designers Éole. The property developers, led by CORES Development, have now sold the building to Bâloise , while many of the facilities, including the hotel, conference rooms, auditorium, gym and restaurants, are run by Mix. For this incredible and unique project, Lionel Jadot enlisted a team of fellow designers to create a veritable collection of one-off pieces. Royale Belge, also known as Souverain 25 due to its location in Boulevard du Souverain/Vorstlaan, is a landmark renovation for Brussels.
