Guided tour / Project nominated for the Brussels Architecture Prize
Ixelles Highline
MSA, in association with Ney & Partners Engineering, 2020
The Ixelles Highline project is part of a regional strategy to develop pedestrian and cycling paths on railway embankments, offering greener and safer alternatives for crossing the city. Here, a completely new soft mobility route now links Germoir RER station to Luxembourg station and the European Quarter.
The project is divided into several sections. It begins on Rue des Artisans and Rue des Deux Ponts, where the streets were redesigned with green spaces and a system for diverting runoff water into buffer zones. From Rue Gray to Rue du Sceptre, an urban staircase with a bicycle ramp rises.
The route ends with the link between Rue du Sceptre and Chaussée de Wavre, along which a new footbridge runs alongside Parc du Viaduc, perched above the railway line. The entire project is punctuated by sober street furniture that blends harmoniously into the landscape of this new green promenade.
Practical information
The tour will end at chaussée de Wavre 205, 1050 Ixelles. It will be possible to return to the starting point with the guide.
