Guided tour / bio-sourcing / The curator's selection
Hainaut quay
Construction team: Atelier van Wassenhove
Implementation: 2022
Along the Brussels canal between Molenbeek and the inner ring road, a new and eye-catching high-rise building has sprung up. This six-storey apartment block differs from the surrounding buildings not only in colour but also in construction, since it is based on a cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure.
The visit will showcase the potential of this technique as a building product of the future. The scope for reducing construction time, as well as wood's ability to store CO2, make CLT an ideal technique for building in busy inner-city areas.
