de baes architects designs urban plans, buildings, environments, and construction systems that are grounded in craft, attuned to place, and holistically sustainable. Joris De Baes founded the studio in 2009 after working at OMA.

We design to build. Our studio works from design through construction to deliver conceptually innovative and rigorously executed projects.

We are future-proofing architecture. We conduct ongoing research into ecologically, economically, and urbanistically sustainable building solutions. We prototype and test modular construction systems, emerging material approaches like cross-laminated timber structures, and new methods to redevelop existing building and landscapes.

We think across scales. Our portfolio spans scales from urban masterplans to adaptive reuse projects and apartment renovations, in each of them we consider everything from global material supply chains to local construction capabilities and building traditions.

We think globally. de baes architects is based in Brussels and works worldwide, bringing global expertise to bear on local projects. It has worked with project partners around the world, including in Japan, Australia, Mexico, Greece, and the United States.

In 2015, we launched redevelop, a chapter that develops inventive, profitable, and replicable solutions for renovating mid-century structures.
