Program 2024

Guided tour / The curator's selection / Second Life of Materials / Dialogue between Past and Present

Cygnes

Architect : Karbon'
Client : Municipality of Ixelles

The Cygnes project is located just a stone's throw from Place Flagey. Formerly the Foyer Ixellois, this building has been transformed into community housing for senior citizens. The apartments were built according to circular construction principles. The Karbon architectural firm is behind the reasoned and exemplary design of this new habitat.

To make it an intergenerational meeting place, the heart of the block has been transformed into a garden and play area. This public program, aimed primarily at young people and families, has been reinforced by an inclusive café that welcomes everyone and allows for moments of conviviality. The café is run by a non-profit organization, which brings the place to life with a wide range of activities.

The volume of the café quickly stands out from the greenery, with its characteristic roof, a light rectangular structure painted blue. Its overhang defines the space around the café’s terrace. Its interior materials create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

Project financed under the City Policy neighbourhoods Axis 2.

The Kinders Ouders Café (KOC) will be open, and the public is welcome to stay for a drink after the visit.
