Abattoirs

The Organization for Permanent Modernity (ORG) / Baukunst

With a surface area of 12 ha, the industrial site of Anderlecht Abattoirs occupies a prominent place in the future development opportunities of Brussels. In several phases, the site of this old slaughterhouse will be converted into an area for sustainable housing and work developments with an integrated infrastructure. An urban slaughterhouse, the further expansion of the food markets, an urban farm, and the upgrading of the cellars with commercial and educational functions are just a few of the planned activities. Resulting in maximizing a vision for an economic future for the commercial activities on an international scale, the creation of a vibrant urban district by revitalizing the surrounding residential areas, and the deliberate integration of the area into the surrounding urban tissue.

The visit on 11.10.2020 at 11H30 in English will be guided by the architect Jo Huygh.
